At FIT Physiotherapy in Newmarket, you can book directly, without a doctor’s referral, and in most cases we bill your insurance company directly so you do not have to pay up front and wait to be reimbursed.
No doctor’s referral needed
Physiotherapists are primary health care providers in Ontario, so you can see one without a referral. Some extended health plans still ask for a doctor’s note before they reimburse physiotherapy, so it is worth checking your plan.

FIT Physiotherapy direct bills the following insurance companies:

If you do not see your insurance company listed, please contact us. We update our list regularly, and coverage rules differ between plans.
We also work with employer-paid physiotherapy and return-to-work programs, and with private disability insurers (see work injury physiotherapy). WSIB claims are treated at our partner clinic, Spectrum Physiotherapy.
What to bring to your first visit
- Your insurance card, or your plan and member (certificate) numbers
- The name of the plan member, if you are covered under a spouse’s or parent’s plan
- For a car accident: your auto insurer, claim number and adjuster’s details

Do I need a doctor referral for physiotherapy in Ontario?
No. You can book with a physiotherapist directly. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor’s note before they reimburse, so check your plan if you are not sure.
Do you direct bill my insurance?

What happens if my plan does not cover the full cost?
We bill your insurer for the covered amount, and you pay any remaining balance at your visit. Coverage amounts vary by plan, so it helps to check your benefits before you start.
Do you direct bill for car accident claims?
In most cases, yes. In Ontario, physiotherapy after a car accident is usually covered through accident benefits from your own auto insurer. Insurers have different rules, so we will confirm the details for your claim.
Do you treat WSIB claims?
WSIB claims are treated at our partner clinic, Spectrum Physiotherapy. If your work injury is not going through WSIB, for example your employer or a disability insurer is covering your care, you can book with us directly.
